Like N: N처럼 Grammar Free Worksheet Included

안녕하세요! Welcome to My Korean Lesson! Today, you'll learn about how to express "like," and "as" using 처럼 grammar. It's a pretty easy lesson! So, let's begin!

like 처럼 grammar

1. 처럼 Grammar

Let's check out the meaning of 처럼 first! 처럼 is a marker(particle) so you attach it to a noun without any space. Then you show that the noun is like a metaphor or comparison.

처럼 grammar example

지나 is tall (키가 커요). By adding 모델처럼, we can add "like a model." Let's see one more example.

유리 씨는 배우처럼 예뻐요. Yuri is pretty like an actress.

유리 is pretty (예뻐요.) And she is pretty like an actress―배우처럼.

So, we are adding the simile using 처럼 in Korean!

2. Conjugation Information

Conjugating this word is not difficult at all! Whether there is a final consonant or not, simply attach 처럼 to the word. Here, I'll give you some examples. You can add new words to your noun organizer as you go through.

  • 아기처럼 like a baby

  • 천사처럼 like an angel

  • 가수처럼 like a singer

  • 영화배우처럼 like a movie star

  • 배우처럼 like an actor/actress

  • 선생님처럼 like a teacher

  • 부모님처럼 like my parents

  • 사장님처럼 like my boss

  • 농구 선수처럼 like a basketball player

  • 달리기 선수처럼 like a runner(sprinter)

  • 공주처럼 like a princess

  • 왕자처럼 like a prince

3. Sentence Information

Extension

You can actually attach this 처럼 to other than a being. You can add it to someone's sayings, predictions, and guesses. Then you can show those turnouts true.

선생님의 말씀처럼 시험이 쉬웠어요. The test was easy like the teacher's saying.

말씀 is an honorific version of 말(talking, saying). 선생님(teacher) had said the test would be easy. And it turned out true! So you are adding 처럼 to his/her saying.

동생의 예상처럼 비가 왔어요. It rained like my younger sibling's prediction.

예상 means a prediction. 동생(younger sibling) had predicted that it might rain. Did it turn out true? Yes, it did!

처럼 vs. 같이

같이 is another word that can show "like" like 처럼!

Yuri sings well like a singer.

= 유리 씨는 가수처럼 노래를 잘 해요.

= 유리 씨는 가수같이 노래를 잘 해요.

However, you can't attach 같이 to someone else's guesses, sayings, or guesses.

(O) 선생님의 말씀처럼 시험이 쉬웠어요. The test was easy as the teacher said.

(X) 선생님의 말씀같이 시험이 쉬웠어요.

잠을 자요 came from 잠을 자다. 잠 is a noun, sleeping and 자다 is a verb, to sleep. 잠을 자다 sounds repetitive, you can just say "자요" instead of "잠을 자요." However, 잠을 자요 is a common way
